Copper has been mined in Cyprus for thousands of years. The name Cyprus probably derives from the Greek for copper - kypros.
Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean, famous for its local hospitality and wonderful year round climate. The island lies south of Turkey and west of Syria, with the vast majority of the population being Greek Orthodox Christians.
Although the official language is Greek, English is widely spoken in most areas with the exception of some of the more remote villages.
The currency in Cyprus is euro.

Cities in Cyprus
Cyprus boasts an enviable year round climate, with long hot summers lasting from May until October, and mostly mild and sunny winters with some rain between December and February. Summer and winter are separated by very short Autumn and Spring seasons.
In the height of summer, temperatures can soar to over 40° in coastal areas with the temperature dropping in winter, sometimes to 10°.
The rainfall in Cyprus is below the Mediterranean average and although snow is rare in the coastal areas, it is normal for the Troodos Mountains to have snow during the winter months, when skiing is possible.
Best of both worlds is possible and often occuring. Ski at the morning and sunbathe at noon .
